Choose Tapered PermaCast® Columns For A Classic Look

In the first century B.C., a Roman architect and engineer, Vitruvius, wrote the most influential work on classic form. In this work, he elaborates on the discovery by the ancient Greeks of entasis, a gradual tapering of the upper two-thirds of round columns that offsets the undesirable illusion from eye level that the column shaft grows larger as it ascends. HB&G round porch columns emulate this classic form.

Plain Round Tapered Columns

We carry plain round tapered porch columns in a variety of sizes and lengths to fit your needs.

Round Fluted Tapered Columns

HB&G offers two distinctive types of round fluted porch columns. The stock flute, which cannot be altered, and the custom flute, which is milled after the column is manufactured and can be modified to your specific length. (* denotes custom fluted) All PermaCast® round columns, both tapered and non-tapered, are available in this fluting style. Pricing and lead times vary for all custom flutes.

Plain Round Non-Tapered Columns

HB&G round non-tapered columns can be cut to any length without affecting the fitting of the column's base. Please refer to the Parallel Dimensions chart in the product information literature to help determine where the taper begins on a tapered column.

Factory splitting is available for all plain and round fluted porch columns for use in pilaster applications and to wrap around an existing load-bearing post. Split columns are not load-bearing.
